POSITION TITLE: Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN)

Agency: Hughes County Jail

Location: Pierre, SD

Salary: $30 - $35/hour based on experience.

Closing Date: Open Until Filled

Hughes County is looking for a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) to join our team at the Hughes County Jail in Pierre. This position includes some weekends.

Here is What You Will Do:

1. Monitors and charts patients' behaviors, symptoms, and reactions to medications and dietary needs to provide doctors/nurse practitioners with accurate information necessary to implement proper patient care and treatment:

a. Observes, evaluates, and charts information pertaining to patients' needs.

b. Provides patient bedside care and maintenance according to an established nursing care plan.

2. Prepares and administers prescribed medications, treatments, and therapies to ensure correct treatment is administered properly in a timely and competent manner:

a. Develops and promotes a therapeutic, clean, and orderly care environment.

3. Assists doctor/nurse practitioners with rounds, minor procedures, and dressing changes to ensure quality patient care is provided:

a. Obtains and maintains patients' health history records.

4. Collaborates with registered nurses to provide appropriate and efficient direct patient care services:

a. Reports status of clinic and patients' conditions or symptoms to a registered nurse or doctor/nurse practitioner.

b. Works with supervisor to formulate and update nursing care and/or individual treatment plans.

Performs other work as assigned.

What We Require:

• Graduation from an accredited educational institution possessing a Licensed Practical Nurse degree.
• Must have LPN licensed from State of South Dakota.
• Possession of a valid South Dakota Driver’s License.
• Background check and pre-employment drug screen before hire.
• CPR Certified

• Knowledge and experience practicing principles and techniques of patient care; hospital and clinic routine and procedures; and the care and use of medical equipment and supplies.
• Ability to evaluate client behaviors, symptoms, and effects from medications.
• Prepare and maintain records, charts, and reports.
• Apply nursing techniques as delegated by physicians or registered nurses.
• Establish and maintain effective relationships with patients and staff.

This position is exempt from the Civil Service Act.

This position is eligible for Veterans' Preference per ARSD 55:10:02:08.

Successful applicant(s) will be required to undergo a background investigation. An arrest/conviction record will not necessarily bar employment. Offers of employment are conditional upon successful completion of a drug screening.
