College Website Content & Story Writer

Temporary Through Year-End | $69.00/hr | Full-Time | On-Site | Start ASAP

Some people collect stories. You get to tell them.

We’re looking for a talented writer and natural storyteller to join a college communications team on a temporary basis through the end of the year. This is a great opportunity for someone who can sit down with a student, professor, alum, or member of the campus community, ask the right questions, uncover what makes their story interesting, and turn it into content that makes prospective students want to learn more.

This isn't just a "write what's on the page" kind of role. You'll be out there finding the story behind the story.

What You'll Do:

• Interview students, faculty, alumni, and members of the college community to uncover compelling personal and professional stories
• Write engaging student profiles, feature stories, success stories, and human-interest pieces
• Translate interviews and background information into polished, accessible, student-focused content
• Update and refresh website copy across digital platforms
• Edit and proofread content for grammar, accuracy, consistency, tone, and style
• Identify interesting people, experiences, programs, and accomplishments that deserve to be showcased
• Collaborate with marketing and communications colleagues to develop content that supports prospective student engagement
• Help tell the story of what makes the college community unique

We're Looking For Someone Who:

• Loves to write and knows how to make a story interesting
• Has a natural curiosity and isn't afraid to approach someone and say, "Tell me about that."
• Knows how to ask thoughtful follow-up questions rather than simply reading from a script
• Can make people feel comfortable enough to open up and share meaningful details
• Has excellent writing, editing, grammar, and proofreading skills
• Has experience writing profiles, features, human-interest stories, interviews, or success stories
• Can take a conversation or a handful of notes and turn them into a compelling finished story
• Has experience creating or editing website content
• Is comfortable learning or working within a CMS such as WordPress, Drupal, or a similar platform
• Has a background in communications, marketing, journalism, English, public relations, or a related field

Higher education experience is a plus but not required. We're more interested in your ability to find a great story and tell it well.
